We were tasked with delivering an exhibition show stand to an event at a hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco in North Africa. The contents fitted into a LWB Mercedes Sprinter van, 2 drivers were dispatched for this slightly out of the ordinary request. The drivers loaded the goods in Bristol on the Friday morning along with the ATA Carnet which is like a passport for the goods we were carrying that allows the temporary import of the goods across international borders.
The event was scheduled for the following Wednesday. The drivers headed to Dover to get the ferry to Calais in France and spent the next two days driving down through France and Spain to the port of Algeciras. Customs were completed in very quick time on the Monday morning on the Spanish side and the driver boarded the boat heading to Tanger Med in Morocco. Unfortunately customs procedures weren’t as quick on the African side, but our agent managed to finally get the drivers out of the port after about 10 hours. They arrived at their destination in Marrakesh at 4pm on the Tuesday.
The event was setup on the Wednesday morning and scheduled for 3 days leaving the drivers with a bit of rest and relaxation until it was time to pack everything back up. They loaded everything back on to the vehicle on the Saturday morning and set back off on the 2500 mile drive back to the UK. Customs procedures were a lot smoother leaving Africa but a broken hydraulic ram on the ramp of the boat meant delays for other reasons this time. Goods were delivered back to Bristol on the Tuesday and concluded the furthest delivery by road we had ever undertaken.
